Comparison

The Comparison feature lets you place two swimmers side-by-side and sync them to a common point — perfect for showing an athlete how their technique compares to a faster swimmer or their own previous best.

When to Use Comparison

  • Showing a swimmer the difference between their turn and a faster swimmer’s turn
  • Comparing an athlete’s technique race-to-race over a season
  • Side-by-side analysis of two relay legs
  • Demonstrating what a faster breakout looks like in real terms

Open a Comparison

Open your first race

Navigate to a race video on your dashboard and click View to open it.

Click Compare

In the annotation toolbar, click the Compare button (two overlapping rectangles icon). A search panel opens on the right.

Choose a second video

Search for a second race or swimmer from your library. You can filter by athlete name, date, or event.

Select the sync point

Choose a marker to sync the two videos on — typically Start or Turn 1. Both videos will snap to the same relative position at that marker.

Play

Click Play. Both videos play side-by-side, staying in sync. Use playback controls to scrub or slow down both simultaneously.

Sync Points

The sync point determines what the two videos are aligned on. Common sync points:

Sync pointGood for
StartComparing full race from the block
Turn 1Isolating second lap and underwater off turns
ReactionComparing start reaction times
Breakout 1Comparing the first stroke after the dive

For technique comparison (not race comparison), sync on Turn to focus specifically on the underwater phase. This removes variation in reaction time from the comparison.

Playback Controls in Comparison Mode

Both videos share a single playback timeline. Controls work the same as the standard annotate screen:

ControlAction
SpacePlay / Pause both
← →Step both videos one frame
Shift + ← →Step both videos 10 frames
Drag timelineScrub both simultaneously

You cannot scrub the videos independently — they are always locked to the same offset from the sync point. To view a video on its own, exit comparison mode first.

Viewing Split Differences

When both videos have markers annotated, a Δ (delta) column appears in the splits table beneath the comparison player. It shows the time difference for each split segment between the two swimmers.

SegmentSwimmer ASwimmer BΔ
Start → Turn 127.22s26.88s-0.34s
Turn 1 → Finish28.27s27.91s-0.36s
Total55.49s54.79s-0.70s

Negative Δ means Swimmer B is faster in that segment.

Sharing a Comparison

Click Share while in comparison mode to generate a shareable link. Recipients see both videos synced at the same point — no account required to view.

Exiting Comparison

Click the X on the comparison panel, or press Escape, to return to the single-video annotate view.
